Non-Resident Families Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment/Non-Resident

Wisconsin's Open enrollment program allows students to apply to attend a public school outside of the district in which they reside.

Who can apply?
Any Wisconsin resident in 4K to grade 12 may apply to attend a nonresident school district under the open enrollment program

When can parents apply?
There are 2 ways parents can apply. The regular period and the Alternative.

  1. Regular Open Enrollment Application Period opens February - April
  2. If you missed the Open enrollment, the Alternative application allows students to apply for open enrollment at any time during the school year. The application for open enrollment  will be available starting July 1st and can be found here. Please complete the Alternative application and send it via email to: enrollment@msd.k12.wi.us

Once your open enrollment application has been approved, you can then complete the SDMA Enrollment Process.

Open enrollment is only for families who do not reside in the district. Families who live in the Menomonie Area District and want to transfer to a different elementary school should refer to the In-District Transfer page.
