Dear SDMA Families and Staff,
As can be seen in this month's SDMA Highlight on Youth Report, October has been a busy month in our schools. Routines have been well established and a lot of heavy lifting is occurring throughout the various courses and curriculums in the school district.
Some academic experts refer to the month of October as "Shakedown Month", as students are encouraged to stretch their capabilities, and as some may begin to test boundaries. Now is a good time to review this previous blog post about The Amazing Power Yet and to emphasize with our kids the importance of having a growth mindset when things might not always come as easy as they would like.
Hopefully parents of K-8 students are taking advantage of parent-teacher conferences this month, and conferences for MHS students are being scheduled for November 3 & 10. Regardless of any conversations at parent-teacher conferences, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's classroom teachers if you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress in school.
The district is well on our way toward accomplishing the goal of ensuring that every student in the SDMA has at least one adult in our schools that they trust. Please check in with your child to see who their trusted adult might be, and if necessary, please reach out to their classroom teacher, school counselor, or building principal. By working together between home and school, we can provide our children with the best educational experience possible.
Have a great week!
