Keeping Students Safe At MMS
Published on Dec 7, 2015 09:10
Good Morning Families,
CARES teachers began today by talking with our students about the
following announcement which I shared with asll students this morning:
On Friday, December 4, Superintendent Joe Zydowsky informed all
teachers, staff members and families in our school district about a
specific threat-like message written somewhere in Menomonie High School
several days ago. Apparently, this message threatens the safety of
others and includes a specific date, time, or place. Messages like this
may simply be a form of angry graffiti. However, because we cannot
know for sure, we must take the threat seriously. We are making
decisions about how to keep everyone safe while this message is
investigated.
This threatening message is considered a crime. Police
investigators are currently investigating this crime. The person or
person(s) responsible will be facing serious consequences. If this
crime is not solved by Wednesday, December 9 , schools may be closed on this day. It is important to know that this day will be "made up" by students and staff members.
Meanwhile, your individual safety and collective safety as a study
body is our number one priority. For this reason, all teachers and
staff members will be on "high alert." You may find doors locked that
were not locked before and other such supervision. Students will not be
allowed to carry backpacks between classes as an added measure of
safety.
We must realize that public locations may always pose a potential
for danger. If we go to the mall, the grocery store, or the gas station
- it is possible danger is near. Our public schools are "as safe" if
not "safer" than most public places. Your CARES teachers are ready to
talk with you this morning to answer your questions or listen to your
concerns and/or ideas. We are all working hard to keep you safe today
and every day.
