Menomonie Middle School Announcements

Parent/Teacher Conferences:  Tonight is our first evening of Parent/Teachers Conferences.  We look forward to seeing you!  If you do not have a conference time set up, please contact your CARES teacher.

School Counselors Week:  Thank you for showing up.  Thank you for being there.  Thank you for always listening.  Thank you for being kind.  Thank you for being compassionate.  Thank you for caring so much.  Thank you for being so brave.  Thank you for being a school counselor.  You are valued beyond measure.  This week is school counselors week and we recognize the hard work of our counselors, Paula Haugle, Adrianna Harrison and Jason Mountin.  Thank you for all you do!

7th Grade Girls Basketball:  The girls BB teams started their season by playing three challenging games against EC South last night.  All teams are to be commended for displaying a positive attitude and effort.

Battle of the Books:  We will meet today right after announcements in the library.  Please bring your whole team and your Chromebooks.

Yummy Hearts:  Student Council is selling Yummy Heart Suckers.  We will be selling them during lunch Tuesday, February 13 - Thursday, February 15.  Cost is $1 per sucker.  All sales go to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital.

MultiCultural Club:  Officers and interested members please meet during CARES on Wednesday, February 7 in Mrs. Bade's room, 418, to discuss and vote on future activities.

Inclusion Awareness Committee:  The Inclusion Awareness Committee (Formerly Autism Awareness) is looking for members. We plan and work on making an Inclusion Week, making it the best it can possibly be. Last year, we were on the WEAU news, hosted penny wars, sponsored dress-up days, and had a lot of fun.  We focus on neurodivergence and making it more known throughout our school and community. If this sounds like fun and you want to help us create an Inclusion Week, contact Ms. Harrison or find her at lunch to get a paper form. We hope to see you there!

Yearbooks:  Get your yearbook orders in by February 23rd to get the low price of $25.  Order online at jostens.com.  You can only purchase the yearbook online.  There are no in person sales.  If you have any questions feel free to ask Mrs. Forster in the 6th grade blue pod or Ms. H in the 8th grade maroon pod.

February is Black History Month:  Every February, the U.S. honors the contributions and sacrifices of African Americans who have helped shape the nation.  Black History Month celebrate the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are in indelible part of our country's history.  Throughout the month of February, MMS will recognize just a few African Americans who have influenced this country.

When NASA astronaut Victor Glover arrived at the International Space Station - roughly 250 miles above earth - on a SpaceX Crew Dragon Capsule in November, he settled in for a six-month stay to become the first Black astronaut to live and work on ISS for an extended period of time. (Of the more than 300 NASA astronauts who have been sent to space, only 14 have been Black Americans.)
